Jelly Bean Sugar Cookies

UPDATE 5 APRIL 2012: Hold the phone, people! I just made these again with a different recipe – adapted from Five Flavor Sugar Cookies, over at Cookie Madness – and they were The Bomb.  I do not say this lightly.  The mix of vanilla, lemon, rum, and coconut works perfectly to make these cookies taste like Easter and spring all wrapped in one neat little package. Photos and recipe in this post have now been updated with the new recipe.  If you want just a plain old, plain old version you can use the sugar cookie recipe from the Sugar Cookie Bites with Nutella Nests post.  Now go forth and bake!

End of an Era.

Well, maybe not an era, really.  But seven years, anyway – almost a fifth of my entire life!  The biz has been closed for a couple months now, but scraping the sign off the window today really made it feel final, like the click of the latch on a door closing behind me.  Today was also my last day of childcare, so starting tomorrow I’m a full-on-five-long-days-a-week-stay-at-home-mom.

Taking down the sign was sad – but you know what wasn’t sad?  The rent check from the new tenant!

Now I’m off to celebrate with some Thin Mints and perhaps a Samoa or two.

Kate, if you are reading this, that last sentence was a typo and in fact says “a very healthy apple and a big glass of water”.

Lesson learned:  never text with your personal trainer during Girl Scout Cookie Season.  And never, ever, admit on Facebook how many boxes of cookies you have already eaten.  Especially if you are FB friends with said personal trainer.

This is going to hurt.

Valentine Message Cookies
